TANITA DC-360 S

The DC-360 S is a bio-electrical impedance body composition analyser which produces full body composition analysis in 15 seconds. It shows total body water, visceral fat rating, basal metabolic rate, body mass index (BMI), body fat, muscle mass and Basal metabolic rate (BMR).

Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis is a method of assessing your body composition: the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. It is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment.

Body Composition monitors can help the patient understand a complete picture of his/her fitness level, ratio of muscle and fat inside their bodies and gives you useful data of total body water, visceral fat rating and BMR.

With this data the practitioner can review and design an effective nutrition and exercise plan towards a healthier life.

What do measurements show?

Basal Metabolic Rate, also known as BMR, is the amount of energy your body burns at rest daily. BMR is the number of calories required to keep your body function while you are not doing any physical activity.

Muscle Mass includes the weight of the muscles in your body in kilograms (kg) or pounds. Higher muscle mass increases metabolic rate and prevents falls and illnesses. For example, a person who has a higher amount of their weight as muscle mass will burn more calories at rest compared to someone with a lower percentage of muscle mass. A higher level of muscle mass can also protect against developing diabetes, according to research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Visceral Fat – When measuring your body fat surrounding the waist, you are measuring visceral fat, which basically is the fat that surrounds your abdominal organs. High level of visceral fat can lead to serious health issues and the metabolic syndrome.

Body Fat Percentageis essential to know when evaluating your health. If your body fat percentage is too low, your resistance to diseases and energy levels are lower, and you are at low risk of health issues. If your body fat percentage is too high, you have a higher risk of diabetes and other health problems. It is therefore important to measure your body fat percentage and stay in the healthy range.

Body Water – The human body needs water to function the right way. Finding the perfect balance in your body water is key. Your body uses water in all its cells, organs and tissues to help regulate temperature and maintain other bodily functions. Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating and digestion, it’s important to rehydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. If the balance is right, you will feel at your best!

Bone Mass – You need strong bones. Until you are about 30, your bone mass will normally increase. However, after that it will start to slowly decrease. If you take good care of your bones, they will likely remain dense enough to avoid any issues. If they deteriorate too quickly, or if you had low bone mass to begin with, you are at risk. Bone issues aren’t noticeable until it is too late. It is therefore smart to keep track of your bone mass and check if you are doing well. It is important to keep your bones as strong as possible. Luckily, there are plenty of things you can do to keep your bones healthy and dense.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the most well-known measurement of the level of fat in your body. It is easy to calculate, just divide your weight by the square of your height. This provides you with a number which indicates whether you are underweight, at a normal weight, overweight or obese.
